Everyone who has, from time to time, stood on their bathroom scales and looked at their waistline, has vowed to cut back on this and that whilst opting for healthier food. But the problem is that healthy food is not always tasty, or easy to produce (or that is the excuse you use anyway).
This little book, as part of the highly-regarded GoodFood magazine series of recipe books, promises 101 seasonal salads to satisfy every taste and, in fact, many can even tempt the most hardened meat eater to try something different.
Within six main sections, each recipe is accompanied by a nice full page photograph of the dish, which makes casual browsing of the book easy to do whilst one whets their appetite. Ingredients and instructions are clearly separated and the instructions are quite well-written and easy to follow.
However this reviewer found the lighter typeface and colouring of the instructions to be harder to read, especially when in the kitchen, and the binding of the book meant that one is forced to either “break the spine” to wedge the book open or to keep opening and closing the book within cooking stages. The lightweight covers to the book also damage quite easily and once the cover is partially folded the damage stays there for ever and it is thus an aesthetic bugbear for life.
Grumbles about the book’s construction aside, when one considers the price of the book you are getting a little bargain with a wide range of different, tasty recipes that prove that there is more to salad than “rabbit food.”
