The British have a relationship with their food that is unlike that of any other country. Once something that was never discussed in polite company, it is now something with which the nation is obsessed. But are they at last developing a food culture or are they just going through the motions? This entertaining, detailed, and somewhat tongue-in-cheek observation of the British and their food, cooking, eating, and behavior in restaurants, covers such topics as dinner parties, funeral teas, Indian restaurants, dieting, and eating while under the influence. Written in Nigel Slater’s trademark readable style, Eating for England highlights the nation’s idiosyncratic attitude towards the fine art of dining.

Grab a copy, lock yourself away and enjoy.” —Sainsbury’s magazine”Packed with his never–bettered brand of veneration for all things quirkily British.” —The Daily Telegraph Books of the Year”[Nigel Slater] is a national treasure.” —The Sunday Times
About the Author
Nigel Slater is the author of The Kitchen Diaries, Real Fast Desserts, Real Fast Food, Real Good Food, and Toast.
I love this book and the author’s style. It is a neverending reference to food and eating in England. I think if I were traveling in Great Britain I would avoid the franchises and eat at all the mom and pop restaurants and eating outlets This book also reminds me of Nigel Slater’s book called Toast which is the author’s own autobiography. I also love the way the author called horseradish as “horse-rubbish”. I am glad that the author never lost his British accent. This is what makes it wonderful to listen to the non-stop prose of eating in England.
