Nathan Turner is the author of Nathan Turner’s American Style (Abrams, 2012). Turner is a regular entertaining expert on The Today Show, and his designs, parties, and products have been featured in major publications including Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, Vogue, Domino, Town & Country, HouseBeautiful, Food & Wine, and more. He lives in Malibu.
This book is awesome. I’m a native Californian, and as I paged through it I was reminded of some of my favorite spots and things about California. I was also reminded of the many times I’ve had visitors from out of state and how many of the spots and food mentioned are places these visitors have loved! This isn’t just a book for Californians to enjoy in a familiar way but also for anyone interested in the many treasures California has to offer. This book helps bring a bit of California to wherever you live. I bought a second copy for my Mom who grew up in Ohio and Georgia and loves to host and make new recipes. She’s going to love it!
I LOVE THIS BOOK! I have a pretty extensive cookbook collection, so I am really picky about what I add to it. First of all, the book itself is gorgeous. Great quality. The photography is beautiful and I love that the author gives you tons of ideas of how to present the food and set the table. That is always the tricky part of entertaining for me. I also appreciate that the menus are put together for you. Sometimes it is hard to know what a good side for a main dish would be. You don’t even have to think about it. The day I the book was delivered, I made the peanut ramen-noodle salad. It was really good and simple to make. I definitely will bring it to every picnic and pool party I attend this summer. Last night I made the ranch chili con carne with the jalapeno cornbread. My kids and husband were huge fans! I can’t wait to make the frozen zabaglione pie and Marion’s meatballs. The recipes are akin to the Barefoot Contessa, which is a huge plus for me. Simple, elegant and delicious. Definitely a keeper.
