I received a copy of this book through NetGalley and Storey Publishing for an honest review. What one word can I use for this book is Wow. I just wished I had this book years ago when all my family lived under one roof. This wonderful and clever idea, make ahead sauce cookbook is filled with 61 easy to make and freeze recipes that are simple to make, freeze, thaw and use for family dinners, single serves and for entertaining a large group of diners. With a handy meal planner sheet and ideas on sauce and food combinations and how plain meals can be made to be full flavour meals, that all can enjoy. There are sections of information on Freezing, Thawing and re-heating, and preparing the diffrent sauces, Veggies that can be served on the side, and foods that compliment the sauce, the quanity of sauce to use and Meal suggestions. I tried for a brunch the Bacon Gravy served with Roasted Mushrooms and for a dinner the Pineapple Ginger Sauce with Chicken Breast, vegetables and rice. Both meals were enjoyed by friends and family and were rated first class. I have made a quantity of the Primavera Sauce and placed into the freezer and had no trouble thawing and reheating the sauce to serve with a nice fresh pasta with fresh parmesan cheese on top for a lunch box meal. one small section that I loved was the making of Compound Butters and Flavour Salts. They store well and are a very good complement to add flavour to meals. I have used the Cinnamon butter on sourdough toast for breakfast and it was delicious. I highly recommend this book to all who have suffered the boring dinner night after night and are in need of fresh ideas to “Flavour Bomb” you next week of family dinners.
